History
In 2009, the artist’s wife, Lyudmila Petrovna, proposed the idea of organizing an exhibition of watercolor works by students of the Uva Art School in memory of Vladimir Petrovich Kuznetsov. The idea was enthusiastically embraced and brought to life by the school’s director, Nadezhda Petrovna Semyonova. Under her leadership, both teachers and students began to study the classical techniques of watercolor painting in greater depth. The exhibition was successfully held within the walls of the art school, and the following year it evolved into a children's watercolor competition that attracted participants from neighboring districts (Seltinsky and Syumsinsky). Throughout that year, art school teachers carried out extensive work to develop and promote watercolor painting among their students.
Since 2010, the "To the Sounds of Watercolor" competition has been held regularly every two years. Interest in watercolor painting continues to grow. The competition has long since reached the republic-wide level and showcases the most talented students of art schools across Udmurtia who work in this painting technique. In addition, the Uva Art School hosts watercolor master classes for teachers and students, providing opportunities for creative exchange and professional development.

The creative competition "To the Sounds of Watercolor" is a unique event in the cultural life of the republic. Its noble mission—to promote watercolor painting among students of Udmurtia’s art schools—brings together like-minded artists, participants, and admirers of watercolor art. Launched in 2009 as a private initiative, the competition soon outgrew the boundaries of the district and became an event of republic-wide significance, with its own traditions, master classes, exchange of experience, and exhibitions. This is hardly surprising, as the competition takes place in the hometown of the outstanding watercolor artist Vladimir Petrovich Kuznetsov and is dedicated to his memory.
The master lived a short but brilliant creative life, filled with artistic discoveries. He created deeply moving images expressed through watercolor, ink, and linocut printmaking. Vladimir Kuznetsov’s watercolor landscapes reveal a delicate world of beauty and tenderness. Their subtle color relationships, contrasts, half-tones, and refined, carefully measured brushstrokes captivate the viewer, creating realistic spaces filled with air, harmony, and tranquility.
His distinctive way of applying paint commands both admiration and curiosity among art professionals. It seems as though the paper itself has absorbed the pigments, preserving every watercolor nuance and conveying the artist’s deep love for the nature of his homeland. Even today, as you enter the exhibition hall filled with the works of the young participants, you can feel nature coming to life in their landscapes. It breathes, bursts into thousands of vibrant color accents, and the paper itself seems to tremble with the emotions of love and admiration for the natural world.
